Estonia's average monthly wage crosses 10,000 kroon mark

For the first time, average monthly gross wages of full-time and part-time employees in Estonia crossed the 10,000 kroon mark. Figures released by the Estonian Statistical Office on Feb. 22 showed average wages had reached 10,212 kroons (EUR 653) in the final quarter of 2006.

In a monthly breakdown, the average sum was 9,565 kroons in October, 9,911 kroons in November and 11,160 kroons in December. Average hourly gross wages and salaries in the fourth quarter reached 60.28 kroons.
Compared to the fourth quarter of 2005, the average monthly gross wages and salaries were higher by 17.5 percent, and the average hourly gross wages and salaries by 19.2 percent.
In absolute terms, the highest wages were paid in the financial intermediation sector, where the average stood at 15,822 kroons. Public administration employees earned an average of 13,354 kroons, and real estate workers earned 11,856 kroons.
Hotels and restaurants continue to post the lowest figures, with an average pay per employee of 6,521 kroons in the final quarter.
