Ex-KGB men stay on in security police

RIGA - The National Security Council last week set the final number of former KGB employees allowed to remain in the national police force at eight, following debate about the place of those who once wore the former Soviet Union's most sinister baggage.Three former KGB employees turned national security police were confirmed at a session Sept. 8 while five others were OK'd the previous week.Two of the three confirmed last week will remain in the national security police for a short term, according to the Ministry of the Interior, while the third will stay indefinitely.
