Teacher shortage plagues schools

RIGA - Just in case 20 crumbling schools aren't enough to occupy the Ministry of Education and Science in the coming months, it must also deal with a shortage of teachers at the start of the new school year.Statistics released by the Education Ministry last week showed students in English, home economics, music, information technology, history and German did not attend classes Sept. 1.On that day, an additional 25 teachers were needed for English, 12 for home economics, 11 for music, two for information technology, five for history and five for German.Those numbers only come from the first ...
