Company brief

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission said last week that the quality of services of Latvijas Pasts, the national postal company, has deteriorated over the last three years. Regulator spokesperson Zanete Luse said that only 62.38 percent of the regulator's test letters were delivered on the next working day, which should be 80 percent under the law. Almost 100 percent of the letters were delivered on the third working day, which is more than the 90 percent envisaged by the law. She said that the company managed to meet the criteria on delivering letters on the next working day only in 2003, with only 70 percent of the letter delivered on the next working day in 2004, and 62 percent delivered in 2005. Latvijas Pasts explains the inability to meet the criteria by the shortage of staff due to low wages.
