Police dismissals spark controversy

TALLINN - The decision by the Minister of Interior to sack 536 police officers last week has ruffled some political feathers in the ruling coalition.Although no official statements have been issued by the three-party coalition of the Moderates, Reform Party and Pro Patria Union, some officials are voicing their opposition to the proposed reforms.Andrus Ansip, mayor of Tartu and vice-chairman of the Reform Party, said he is against the decision because it is politically short-sighted."It is not reasonable," he said.
