Government unveils slimmed down budget

TALLINN - Next year's state budget will be balanced and about 1 billion kroons ($66.1 million) smaller than this year's, said Prime Minister Mart Laar at last week's government session."Compared to the 1999 state budget, the 2000 state budget is smaller and at the same time we meet the priorities promised in the coalition agreement," Laar said.The government approved the draft budget of 17.1 billion kroons for the year 2000 at the Sept. 14 meeting and also changed the way in which funds from the budget will be appropriated to local governments.Currently, sums meant for local government inve...
