Finland: no set date for enlargement

LONDON (Reuters-BNS) - Finland, which currently chairs the European Union, rejected a call Sept. 17 by new European Commission President Romano Prodi to set a date in December for admitting the first Central and East European countries.Finnish Foreign Minister Tarja Halonen said in London it was not realistic to set a timetable when even the most advanced candidates had only completed the easier half of accession negotiations and had yet to put EU legislation into practice."I don't think it's very realistic to talk of a timetable," she told Britain's Royal Institute of International Affairs...
