Rolandas Paksas teeters on resignation

VILNIUS - Prime Minister Rolandas Paksas was close to resignation when The Baltic Times went to press On Oct. 27. His spokesman, Jonas Cekuolis, said that Paksas would announce his decision to go or stay in office on Oct. 28 when President Valdas Adamkus returns from his visit to Canada. Observers predicted that Paksas was willing to stop piloting the state.In an address to the nation televised on three TV channels, Paksas said on Oct. 18 that he would not sign a deal with U.S. energy supplier Williams to sell a stake in oil company Mazeikiu Nafta.
