RIGA – The Europeade 2004 folk culture festival opened on Thursday with a forum and exhibition from 15 different cities throughout the continent and was followed by hours of music and dancing.
Over 170 dance groups from around Europe are taking part in the 41st annual festival, which has been dampened, but not ruined, but humid streets and rainfall.
At the opening concert at Skonto Stadium, President Vaira Vike-Freiberga welcomed the some 4,000 participants from two dozen countries from as far away as Greenland.
