Violent storm sweeps through Sigulda

SIGULDA, Latvia - An intense thunderstorm ripped the roofs off several buildings and knocked down power lines, leaving 5,000 people without electricity in Sigulda last week."It looks like there has been a war," an electrical repairman told Baltic News Service a few hours after the storm swept through this central Latvian town on the afternoon of July 6.At the height of the storm, which lasted twenty minutes, the Latvian Meteorological Center recorded wind gusts of 108 kilometers an hour.
