RIGA (BNS) - Latvian and Lithuanian prime ministers at a meeting in
Riga May 20 agreed to set up a working group that will assess the
amount of investment needed in facilitating border construction between
the two neighbours, Latvian Prime Minister Andris Berzins said
following a meeting with Lithuanian Premier Audrius Kubilius.

The working group will study the situation on the border and determine
whether it would be useful to build major buildings on the border.

"It should be studied if big funds should be invested and big buildings
constructed on the border... if we join the European Union together,"
said Berzins.

The prime ministers did not agree yet by what time the working group
should be established.

The two premiers also discussed the budget situation in their
countries, macro-economic and economy related issues as well as customs
operatations and energy.

The officials also discussed mutual coordination while getting ready
for EU membership.
