TALLINN - The Estonian new passenger car market is continuing its recovery from last year's slump, with sales of electric cars also seeing a slight increase in June.
In June, 1,932 new passenger cars were sold in Estonia, a 24.7 percent increase compared to the sales results of June last year. In the first half of this year, a total of 9,979 new passenger cars have been sold in Estonia, which is 62.1 percent more than in the same period last year.
"Looking at the passenger car registrations for June this year, we can see a slight increase compared to previous months," said Meelis Telliskivi, the CEO of AMTEL. "The result has certainly been influenced by the favorable prices of cars in stock at dealerships and larger procurements by corporate clients."
In June, 146 electric cars were delivered to customers, accounting for 7.6 percent of total sales. Hybrid cars continue to hold the largest share, with 1,228 units sold in June, making up 63.6 percent of the total. The shares of gasoline and diesel cars were 17.4 percent and 11.5 percent, respectively.
With 440 cars sold, Toyota continued to lead the list of most popular car brands in June. It was followed by Skoda (354) and Renault (194). These same three brands also formed the top three for the first six months of the year. The top three models were the Toyota Corolla (125 units sold), Skoda Kamiq (107), and Skoda Kodiaq (102).
The commercial vehicle market also saw continued growth in June, with a total of 432 new vehicles delivered to customers, up 15.5 percent from June last year. In the first half of the year, 2,192 new commercial vehicles were sold in Estonia, a 31.2 percent increase over the same period last year. The top three brands in June were Peugeot (60), Toyota (58), and Citroen (52). In the truck segment, Scania (37) and Volvo (18) posted the best results.
