VILNIUS - Lithuanian telecommunications companies said on Monday that they have enabled free calls and SMS messages to the Middle East until Sunday midnight.
Lithuanian operators activated free communication in Israel, Bahrain, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Oman, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, and Lebanon.
According to Telia Lietuva, free calls and SMS messages are available both within these countries and from Lithuania for private and business customers, as well as Ezio prepaid card users.
"We want our clients to be able to quickly get information and contact family members without counting the cost of minutes spoken or messages sent," Lina Bandzine, head of Telia’s private client division, said in a statement.
Later on Monday, telecommunications company Bite Lietuva also said it was enabling free calls and SMS messages between Lithuania and Middle Eastern countries.
"The decision was made to help Lithuanian citizens in or near affected regions remain reachable – to contact relatives, diplomatic missions, or local authorities if needed," said Jonas Milerius, Bite’s international services business development manager.
Milerius added that the service is available to all Bite private and business customers, including users of the Labas prepaid service.
The offer is valid from March 1 until March 8 at 11:59 p.m., with the possibility of extension depending on how the ongoing conflict develops, the companies announced.
