Lithuanian parlt speaker to discuss Russia's disinformation with Nordic counterparts

VILNIUS – Speaker of the Lithuanian Seimas Viktoras Pranckietis is leaving for Tallinn on Monday to attend a conference of the speakers of the Nordic and Baltic parliaments.

Pranckietis is scheduled to give a speech on fighting the influence of disinformation by foreign countries.

"Russia is allocating billion-worth budgets for spreading disinformation through government-controlled media channels. We realize the scope of the challenge we are facing and we need to invest into media literacy and the development of a critical way of thinking. It is important to cooperate, exchange good practices on fighting disinformation," the speaker of the Lithuanian parliament said.

Regional security issues, Brexit and Eastern Partnership issues will be also discussed during the meeting of the parliament speakers.

During his Tallinn visit, Pranckietis is also scheduled to meet with representatives of Estonia's Institute of Historic Memory and visit the Memorial of the Victims of Communism.
