On October 22, 2016, Lithuania’s Interior Minister, Salius Skvernelis, called for a zero-tolerance policy on drink driving.

Skvernelis called for a total ban, and added for a zero blood alcohol content limit should be introduced for drivers.

"I believe we'll have to shift to a zero-tolerance policy,” he told Ziniu Radijas.

As of January 2015, the zero blood alcohol content requirement is in place for beginner drivers, taxi and motorbike drivers and also HGV drivers.

At present, alcohol content in the blood of the remaining drivers should not exceed 0.4 ‰.

According to Skvernelis, a number of drivers take the risk of getting behind the wheel after consuming alcohol, due to failing to properly evaluate their driving ability.
