VILNIUS – Lithuania's government has decided to write off eight armored cross-country vehicles Toyota Land Cruiser used by the country's soldiers in the operation in Afghanistan, as they are not worth repairing.
The vehicles purchased from the Asian market were in use between 2005 and 2015, the Defense Ministry said.
According to the press release, they are not worth bringing back to Lithuania or repairing, as repairs of a single vehicle in Afghanistan would cost more than 90,000 euros.
NATO started the operation in Afghanistan 16 years ago and closed it in 2014. The Alliance in 2015 transferred to a non-combat mission where troops train and advise local Afghan forces fighting the Taliban and the unit of the Islamic State terrorist group.
