VILNIUS – Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys met with Moldovan President Maia Sandu in Chisinau on Friday to discuss bilateral relations, European integration, and ways to strengthen resistance to Russia's hybrid attacks.
"Moldova, like Lithuania, is the target of deliberate Russian disinformation and hybrid attacks," the Lithuanian foreign minister was quoted as saying in a statement released by the Foreign Ministry. "One thing is clear: the Kremlin's main goal is to undermine the European aspirations of the Moldovan people and weaken public support for the country's EU membership. We cannot allow the Kremlin's narratives to prevail. The EU must join forces and help Moldova implement structural reforms and counter Russian influence."
Moldova gained valuable experience in 2024 and 2025 by repelling hybrid attacks and hostile attempts to influence democratic elections, Budrys said, adding that, by exchanging lessons learned and sharing successful practices, Lithuania and Moldova are contributing to a more resilient and secure Europe.
The minister expressed his support for the Moldovan people's choice and determination to follow the European path and confirmed that Lithuania would continue to actively support Moldova's efforts to ensure the country's security and prosperity.
The meeting also covered support for Ukraine, the need to strengthen Moldova's democratic institutions, and continuing reforms of the justice system.
As reported by BNS, during his visit, Lithuania's top diplomat will also meet with Moldovan Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popsoi, and Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov.
