VILNIUS – A Lithuanian dancer missing in Dubai has been found dead.
The body of Vykintas Sirmas, 28, has been found in the United Arab Emirates, Revita Janaviciute, a spokeswoman for Lithuania's Police Department confirmed to BNS on Friday.
"We have information that he has been found dead. We do not have any more information," she said.
Lina Baniene, a spokesperson for Taurage County Police, told BNS that the Lithuanian Criminal Police Bureau's International Relations Board informed Taurage County Police about the discovery of Sirmas' remains.
"The missing person has been found dead and the police have not received any further details or circumstances," Baniene said. She could not provide more information on where and when the remains were found.
The circumstances of this death will be investigated by UAE law enforcement authorities, she added.
"The International Relations Board has informed that the law enforcement authorities in area will investigate the circumstances of the incident and inform Taurage police," Baniene said.
According to her, the deceased's declared place of residence is Taurage and his permanent place of residence is Vilnius, which is why Taurage County Police was informed about the search for Sirmas.
The lrytas.lt news website was the first to report on the discovery of the young man's remains.
According to its sources, the dancer was found in an apartment in the UAE a few days ago unresponsive.
The dancer's sister told the website on Wednesday that she had not been in contact with her brother for almost two weeks, having last talked to him on June 28. According to the website, the man was last seen last Saturday in Dubai.
