Lithuanian, Estonian prime ministers talk bilateral relations, defense cooperation

VILNIUS - Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginiene had a phone call with her Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal on Friday and the two leaders discussed the continuity of bilateral relations, the importance of cooperation on defense and security, transport, energy issues, and support for Ukraine, the Office of the Lithuanian Government said.

During the conversation, the prime ministers emphasized the importance of cooperation not only on a bilateral basis, but also within the framework of the Baltic Council of Ministers, with the Baltic prime ministers; meeting scheduled in December, and within the framework of the Nordic-Baltic Eight.

"The excellent relations between Lithuania and Estonia and our close cooperation in all areas are our support and strength in these challenging times. I have no doubt that together we will deepen our ties, work for even greater security and prosperity in our region, and continue to actively support Ukraine attacked by Russia," Ruginiene said.

"We must continue and strengthen our comprehensive support for the Ukrainians so that a sustainable and just peace can dawn as soon as possible," the Lithuanian prime minister said.

According to the press release, during the conversation, the Estonian prime minister also congratulated Ruginiene's government, which has been in office for the past several weeks, and wished it success.
