VILNIUS - Lithuania, together with the Nordic and Baltic countries, will establish a cyber security consortium (NBCC) aimed at strengthening cyber security in the region, Lithuania's National Cyber Security Center announced on Thursday.

"Cyber threats do not respect national borders, so closer cooperation between countries in the region is essential. A shared understanding of threats, common technological solutions, and a partnership based on trust are the key to greater resilience across the region," Defense Vice Minister Tomas Godliauskas said in a statement.

According to the NCSC, a regional data-sharing platform will be created during the implementation of the project, and all participating countries will obtain and share information about cyber threats observed in their countries.

The center will expand its team of analysts, and its members will provide information about identified cyber threats through the NBCC platform, contribute to the analysis of regional threats, and develop joint analytical products.

"By participating in the NBCC project, Lithuania will not only share relevant information about cyber threats with other countries in the region, but will also strengthen its cyber resilience by having access to more detailed data on the most significant cyber threats in the Baltic and Nordic regions," NCSC director Antanas Aleknavicius pointed out.

The consortium platform will also be used to develop advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence-based solutions. Cooperation between the public sector, business, and scientific institutions will also be strengthened.

The project is scheduled to be implemented between 2026 and 2029. It is partly funded by the Digital Europe Programme, with a total budget of around 14 million euros.

The consortium will be based in Copenhagen, with activities coordinated by the Danish Resilience Agency.

The NBCC brings together seven countries: Denmark, Estonia, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Finland.
