VILNIUS - Lithuania is urgently sending 90 electricity generators to Ukraine in response to the extremely complex situation and to ensure the supply of electricity in the country, the Defense Ministry announced on Thursday.

"As temperatures in Kyiv have fallen to low freezing levels, especially at night, thousands of residents are facing a real threat to their health and lives. Therefore, electric generators are becoming a vital means of humanitarian aid. Lithuania has been and will remain a reliable ally and supporter of Ukraine," Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas said.

According to the Defense Ministry, the value of the electric generator being sent to Ukraine exceeds 2 million euros. This aid is intended to ensure the uninterrupted operation of essential services-heating, electricity, and critical infrastructure.

According to Prime Minister Inga Ruginiene, the first shipment of generators will leave on Thursday and will be delivered to the most affected areas of Ukraine where power supply disruptions have a direct impact on vital functions.

"The decision was made quickly in response to an urgent request from the Ukrainian authorities and taking into account the current situation in the energy sector. The support is provided in the context of Lithuania's solidarity and consistent support for Ukraine, with the aim of strengthening the country's resilience and ability to meet the basic needs of its population," Ruginiene said on Facebook.
