VILNIUS - More Lithuanian citizens returned to Lithuania than left last year, a trend that has now continued for six consecutive years, according to the State Data Agency.

Statistics show that 18,155 Lithuanian citizens returned to the country in 2025, while 9,669 left.

Most citizens return from countries with the largest Lithuanian communities: the United Kingdom (7,429), Norway (2,119), Germany (1,680), Ireland (1,345) and the Netherlands (880).

Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys notes that the long-term trend confirms strengthening ties between citizens and their homeland.

"The fact that our compatriots are returning to Lithuania is an expression of citizens' trust in their state. This trend is a natural result of consistent efforts by state institutions, municipalities and the business community, as well as close ties with the diaspora. More and more of our people are choosing to build their future here because they see prospects for successful careers, a safe environment for families, and broad opportunities for innovation and business in Lithuania," Budrys said in a press release.

In 2024, 18,934 Lithuanian citizens returned to Lithuania, while 9,486 left the country. This was the lowest number of departures since the restoration of Lithuania's independence in 1990.
