VILNIUS – Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis is paying a visit to Ukraine.
“I have returned to Kyiv because that’s what friends are for,” the Lithuanian top diplomat posted on X on Friday.
In Ukraine, he is due to meet with the country's leaders to discuss the situation on the frontline, the West's continued military support, Ukraine's integration into the European Union and NATO, as well as the development cooperation projects implemented by Lithuania.
Landsbergis is visiting Kyiv following the reshuffle of Ukraine’s government and amid a counter-offensive mounted by Moscow's troops in Russia’s Kursk region.
This is the Lithuanian minister’s ninth visit to Ukraine since the Russian invasion in February 2022. He will stay in Ukraine until Sunday.
Landsbergis has criticized the West for being too slow to deliver support to Ukraine. Lithuania and some allies are calling for the lifting of restrictions on Ukraine's strikes against targets on Russia’s territory.
Kyiv is pushing Washington and London to lift a restriction on firing arms made by those countries, with Russian President Vladimir Putin warning that giving Ukraine the green light would mean NATO was "at war" with Moscow.
