VILNIUS - Lithuania does not intend to respond to renewed Israeli strikes on Lebanon, presidential national security aide Deividas Matulionis said on Thursday, amid international condemnation of the attacks.

"We certainly do not intend to react for the time being, but we will see how things look in the coming days. We trust the decision made by America and Iran regarding the temporary ceasefire and hope it will become permanent and the issue will be resolved," Matulionis told Ziniu Radijas.

"The Israeli issue is somewhat complicated; it is difficult to provide an assessment today. (...) I do not think there is any need to rush here," he added.

The remarks follow Israel's renewed strikes on Hezbollah targets across Lebanon despite a two-week ceasefire brokered by the US and Iran. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the US-Iran truce does not cover his country's fight against the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah.
