VILNIUS - Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys and his Zambian counterpart Mulambo Haimbe have signed a protocol of agreement on bilateral political consultations on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, the Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.

The Lithuanian and Zambian ministers also discussed prospects for the development of bilateral economic cooperation and the importance of close ties in the context of global challenges.

Budrys thanked Zambia for its firm position in supporting the principles of territorial integrity and sovereignty and stressed that the UN must remain focused on Russia's aggression against Ukraine.

At the meeting, organized under the European Union's Global Outreach initiative, the Lithuanian foreign minister also presented the EU's positions.

Budrys is in New York this week to participate in the 80th UN General Assembly events and plans to hold bilateral meetings with political leaders, as well as with the Belarusian opposition and the Lithuanian and Jewish communities.
