Lithuania, South Korea discuss anti-drone, air defence cooperation

VILNIUS - Lithuanian Defence Minister Robertas Kaunas met South Korean Ambassador Joyoung Jeon on Friday to discuss potential cooperation on anti-drone systems and short-range air defence capabilities.

"When purchasing air defence or anti-drone systems, Lithuania considers not only quality and price, but also delivery timelines, which is why we are exploring various options. Looking ahead, we are considering cooperation with the South Korean defence industry on air defence systems - in the field of 30-40 mm air defence guns, the Koreans are among the most reliable manufacturers and could ensure rapid delivery," Kaunas said.

The meeting also covered industrial cooperation and the potential manufacture of defence products in Lithuania.

The minister noted that Lithuania and South Korea share similarities, as both countries neighbour hostile regimes and must maintain high levels of alertness. This, according to Kaunas, provides a natural foundation for closer cooperation.

According to the Ministry of National Defence, relations between Lithuania and South Korea have gained significant momentum in recent years, with cyber defence set to remain a core pillar of the bilateral partnership.
