RIGA – Latvian embassy in Moscow has been attacked this evening, Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics (Unity) said in his Twitter post.

Foreign Ministry’s spokesman Gints Jegermanis told LETA that four or five people arrived at the embassy building at 5:30 p.m. They were throwing smoke candles and signal flares at the building. One of them tried to paint something black on the embassy’s wall, but managed to draw just a letter "S".

The vandals have been detained.

Jegermanis confirmed that Latvia will hand a note to the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"Latvia strongly condemns such provocations and demands Russia to fully ensure security of Latvia’s diplomatic missions in accordance with international law," Rinkevics said in Twitter.
