RIGA - The Environmental Protection and Regional Development Ministry might help Ukraine with expertise in cleaning up degraded and polluted territories.
Environmental Protection and Regional Development Minister Arturs Toms Pless (Development/For) on Friday met with Ukrainian Ambassador to Latvia Olexandr Mischenko to discuss matters concerning the provision of support to Ukrainian civilians and municipalities.
"I assured the ambassador that the ministry is and will be ready to help with expertise in the ministry's areas of competence, including the rehabilitation of degraded and polluted areas. I also underlined that we continue to support Ukraine's civilians who have fled the horrors of war and found refuge in Latvia's municipalities," said Pless.
The Environmental Protection and Regional Development Ministry has submitted to the parliament proposals for strengthening local governments' refugee admission capacity by adjusting and refurbishing their properties.
