RIGA - The first Covid-19 related death in Latvia has been confirmed, Latvian Television reports.

The patient was a 99-year-old woman who had been receiving treatment at the Latvian Center for Infectious Diseases of Riga East Clinical University Hospital since March 27. For the first three days, the patient was treated in an intensive care unit.

As her condition stabilized, the patient was transferred to the recovery ward for further treatment. Even though she had been infected with Covid-19, her cause of death was other chronic conditions.

As reported, with 35 more people testing positive for the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours, the total number of Covid-19 cases in Latvia has grown to 493, according to information released by the Center for Disease Prevention and Control.

Altogether, 1,364 people were tested for Covid-19 during the last 24 hours. The total number of Covid-19 tests conducted so far reached 18,198.

Of the 31 Covid-19 patients that are being treated in hospital, 28 are cases of moderate severity and three are severe cases, which means the patients have pneumonia and need ventilation.
