Latvia and Moldova to expand cooperation in ICT, digitalisation and renewable energy

RIGA - Latvia and Moldova will expand cooperation in the fields of information and communication technologies (ICT), digitization, renewable energy and clean technologies, the Economics Ministry informed LETA.

The fourth meeting of the Latvia-Moldova Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Industrial, Scientific and Technical Cooperation was held in Riga on Wednesday, January 29.

The meeting underlined the desire of both countries to expand economic cooperation, as well as to promote trade and investment relations, especially in ICT, industry, agriculture, transport, start-ups, renewable energy, tourism, regional development and other areas, as well as in the transfer of experience in various fields, taking into account Moldova's progress towards accession to the European Union (EU), the ministry said.

During the talks, the parties agreed to strengthen cooperation in the fields of energy efficiency and renewable energy, as well as clean technologies, with particular emphasis on Latvia's experience and expertise in this area. Among other things, the parties expressed interest in developing cooperation in agriculture and forestry, with particular emphasis on Latvia's role in Moldova's agricultural mentoring program during its EU accession process, the ministry said.

According to the Economics Ministry, Latvian representatives expressed interest in promoting cooperation with Moldova in the field of education and science, including by strengthening direct contacts between higher education and research institutions of both countries. They also discussed the next steps of cooperation in the field of electronic communications and ICT, highlighting Latvia's experience and expertise in this area.

The Moldovan representatives expressed interest in Latvia's experience and information support in various areas, including an agreement to promote cooperation in the field of sustainable tourism development by exchanging knowledge and best practices.
