RIGA - Latvia and Slovakia are partners thinking alike and both countries also provide support to Ukraine, said Saeima speaker Edvards Smiltens (United List) during his meeting with Slovakian Ambassador to Latvia Ladislav Babcan.
Saeima press service reported that Smiltens in his speech noted that this year 30 years pass since both countries established diplomatic relations. Smiltens noted Slovakia's contribution to strengthening security of the Baltic region and Latvia, including with more than 100 troops in the NATO Battle Group in Latvia.
Discussing Russia's war in Ukraine, Smiltens noted that Latvia and Slovakia try to help Ukraine in different ways and feel the consequences of the war. The ambassador confirmed Slovakia's wish to increase its support, including military support to Ukraine.
Smiltens thanked the ambassador for his personal contribution to strengthening Latvian-Slovakian relations. This was the ambassador's farewell visit.
