RIGA - Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins (New Unity) after the meeting with the Baltic prime ministers underscored successful cooperation among the three Baltic states in different sectors.

After the meeting with Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte and Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, Karins said that the Baltic states have confirmed that if they are holding together, then they may become a force also internationally.

The prime minister said that the regime of Belarus authoritarian leader Alexander Lukashenko this year has made citizens of third countries into weapons on the EU external border. Even though the EU legislation had not been ready for that, the Baltic states in joint work have achieved implementation of it and support from the EU in general.

Also Karins noted that the Baltic states have joined in fight against Russia's disinformation campaign when the eastern neighbor claimed that the EU is to be blamed for the migrant crisis and it is Ukraine that is the aggressor and not Russia.

The prime minister underscored that the Baltic cooperation is important also on energy issues and railway project Rail Baltica.

As reported, the three Baltic prime minister met in Vilnius on Wednesday to discuss the situation on the EU eastern border with Belarus, Russia's military activities near Ukraine, development of infrastructure projects and energy policy, as well as other issues.
