RIGA - Human skulls and bones have been found beneath a tree that was uprooted next to Bauska Castle by Thursday's storm, LETA observed.
State Police spokeswoman Ruta Strautniece told LETA that digging works are being planned on the site where the two human skulls and other bones were found to make sure there are no more human remains laying hidden in the ground. The bones will be sent for forensic examination to determine their age.
Maris Skanis, director of the Bauska Castle Museum, said that the bones might be from an old burial or human remains from 20th century wars.
Skanis said that yesterday's violent storm broke branches of nearby trees but did not damage the castle. Although power supply to the castle and telecommunications had yet to be restored, the museum's staff are ready to welcome tourists.
As reported, a fierce storm raged in Bauska on Thursday afternoon, felling trees, ripping roofing from buildings and leaving the town without electricity.
On Friday, work is underway in Bauska to clear up the storm damage.
