RIGA - The government on Tuesday approved the participation of Major Martins Stange of the State Police in the European Union (EU) Monitoring Mission in Georgia until March 2026.
Currently, 18 Latvian civilian experts are participating in international missions.
Twelve experts are participating in the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia, four in the EU Advisory Mission Ukraine and two in the EU Mission in Armenia.
The mission in Georgia is an unarmed observation mission that started its work in 2008, following an agreement between Russia and Georgia, in which the EU played a mediating role, and a decision taken in the area of European Security and Defense Policy.
The mission is intended to contribute to stability throughout Georgia and the surrounding region.
