BRUSSELS - The European Union's (EU) interior ministers at an extraordinary meeting on Monday agreed to set up a platform to register Ukrainian war refugees who arrive in the EU.

The platform is to allow European governments to exchange information about arrivals to ensure their access to the bloc's temporary protection status.

The move is designed to centralize the bloc's efforts "to welcome refugees in the best conditions" according to a statement from the European Commission and the French EU presidency.

The European Commission will propose a platform which the EU-LISA, an EU agency for security IT systems, is to put in place for EU member states to use.
