YEREVAN - The European Union delegation to Armenia and the EU countries have issued an urgent joint statement, urging the parties to the internal political conflict to show restraint.

The EU is welcoming Armenian President Armen Sarkissian's initiative to establish the dialogue between the government and protesters, the statement said. However, the EU is concerned that the Sunday's brief meeting between MP Nikol Pashinyan and Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan did not make it possible to prevent further escalation of tensions, it said.

The EU reaffirmed the need for all the sides to display restraint and responsibility and to seek urgent solutions through talks.
