KYIV - The European Union's economic sanctions against Russia are politically tied to Russia's fulfillment of the Minsk agreements, and this position will remain unchanged, Matti Maasikas, European Union ambassador to Ukraine and former deputy secretary general of the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and deputy minister for EU affairs, said.
"Firstly, allow me to underscore that no EU sanctions prevent any state against which they are targeted from fighting the [coronavirus] crisis. These restrictions and sanctions do not concern medical products or anything of the sort," Maasikas told Interfax-Ukraine in an interview published on Friday.
"Additionally, EU sanctions are politically tied to Russia's complete fulfillment of the Minsk agreements. This has been said by EU leaders on repeated occasions, and this fact will remain unchanged," he said.
