Mapri Ehitus, Estonia's third-largest construction company by revenue, has acquired a 72% stake in the Lithuanian construction company UAB Bauschmidt. The construction company, which has so far focused primarily on agricultural construction, has been renamed Mapri Statyba and is expanding its operations into other construction sectors.
Priit Jaagant, Chairman of the Board of Mapri Ehitus, says that the company has been the third-largest construction company by revenue in Estonia for several years and that Mapri Buve has been operating in Latvia for over 10 years. “The natural next step was to move further south. We have at least three reasons for our expansion. Firstly, Lithuania has the largest economy in the Baltic States, and we couldn't continue without them. Several of our regular clients wanted to expand their operations in Lithuania. And thirdly, as Estonia's largest agricultural construction company, we entered the market by acquiring a stake in a company primarily engaged in agricultural construction. Now we can apply our experience to the Lithuanian market.”
Nerijus Tamašauskas, CEO of Mapri Statyba, says the merger of the two companies began with the construction of the UAB ACE Logistics Kaunas terminal. “Initially, we planned to enter into a consortium agreement, but then we discussed why not merge the two companies to jointly increase our stakes in the agricultural and civil construction sectors,” says Tamašauskas.
Speaking about the Lithuanian construction market, the head of Mapri Statyba confirms that it is growing. “The market is growing due to agricultural subsidies, increasing volumes of energy projects, the renovation of old panel buildings, and foreign investment projects. Competition in the Lithuanian market is very strong, and we must work hard to gain market share. Bringing Mapri Ehitus' project management experience to the Lithuanian construction market will provide a different approach to project execution. And hopefully, this will give clients one more reason to choose us. We aim to become the strongest construction company in the agricultural sector and also be significant players in other construction sectors.”
Mapri Statyba is currently involved in the construction of the UAB ACE Logistics Kaunas terminal, the UAB Grainmore grain warehouse, the renovation of UAB Idavang pigsties, and the construction of several cattle barns.
The Estonian construction company Mapri Ehitus' activities include general contracting and project management, agricultural construction, and concrete works. Operating throughout Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, Mapri Ehitus' consolidated construction volume in 2023 was 161 million euros, and the company employs over 200 people. This year, Mapri Ehitus completed the Eesti Energia office building in Tartu, is constructing a grain terminal in Central Estonia, residential buildings in Tallinn, and many other projects.
