Estonia's new president to make first foreign visits to neighbouring countries

TALLINN - Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid will make one-day getting-acquainted visits to Finland, Latvia, and Lithuania this month.

Kaljulaid will travel to Helsinki on Thursday, Oct. 20 for meetings with the Finnish head of state, Sauli Niinisto, and parliament Speaker Maria Lohela, the office of the president a. She will continue from Helsinki to Riga to meet with Latvian President Raimons Vejonis and Speaker Inara Murniece.

The Estonian and Lithuanian heads of state are scheduled to meet on Wednesday, Oct. 26 in Vilnius.

"In light of the challenges facing Europe, close regional co-operation among Nordic countries and Baltic States is more and more important. Our greatest allies are the countries closest to us," Kaljulaid said.
