Estonia: Ratas and May focus of defense cooperation and digital themes

TALLINN - Estonian Prime Minister Juri Ratas and British Prime Minister Theresa May in their meeting in London on Tuesday discussed defense cooperation and digital topics.

Ratas said that the United Kingdom is and remains an important ally of Estonia, the European Union and NATO in ensuring the security of Europe and in the fight against terrorism, spokespeople for the Estonian government said.

"Intensification of cooperation between the European Union and NATO demonstrates the unity of Europe and strengthens transatlantic relations," Ratas said. "The presence of allies in the Baltic countries and Poland is important for ensuring the security of Europe and the United Kingdom has made a big contribution to it. Cooperation between the defense forces of Estonia and the United Kingdom is close and very active."

In addition, Ratas spoke in greater detail about plans of the Estonian presidency in taking forward digital topics in the EU and the aims of the Digital Summit to be held in Tallinn on Sept. 29.

Also talked about were topics having to do with solving of the migration crisis and the withdrawal of the UK from the European Union.
