Estonia: Police check reveals 2 illegal workers at Tartu construction site

TALLINN- Checks conducted by officers of the South prefecture at construction sites in the city of Tartu revealed two illegal workers, whose short-term employment had not been registered with the police.

Officials at the border and migration surveillance department of the South prefecture before noon on Thursday checked various businesses in the city of Tartu to find out whether all the foreigners working at the construction sites were staying in Estonia and working here on a legitimate basis, the South prefecture said.

Altogether 30 legal persons and 71 physical persons were checked at six sites.

At one construction site in Tartu city two Belarusian citizens were discovered whose short-term stay in Estonia had not been registered with the Police and Border Guard Board. Misdemeanor procedures were opened with regard to the two individuals and the were fined for violating the terms of working in Estonia.

No other violations were detected during the raid.
