Dozens of pieces of wartime munitions found in western Estonia last week

TALLINN - Explosive ordnance disposal specialists from the EOD group for western Estonia responded to five alerts and rendered a total of 43 pieces of munitions from past wars harmless last week.

During excavation work in the village of Kaunispe, on the island of Saaremaa, a 76-millimeter projectile was found. In Lõu village, hunters found 39 units of 45-millimeter projectiles and a hand grenade. The items were rendered harmless at a dedicated site for the detonation of such items, spokespeople for the Rescue Center for western Estonia told BNS

An 8.8-millimeter projectile was found on the beach of the village of Sviby on the island of Vormsi. It was rendered harmless on-site.

In Metsaküla, in the rural municipality of Häädemeeste in Pärnu County, an 82-millimeter mortar shell was found. The find was localized.
