Distribution of food aid to poor residents starts in Lithuania

VILNIUS – The European Social Fund Agency has started distributing food aid to poor residents in Lithuania on Monday for a fourth year running.

Products are being delivered to municipalities of Monday, and the product basket will include 10 products, including grains, oil, soup and oat biscuits with chocolate pieces.

According to the ESFA, over 177,000 people are expected to receive food aid in August, with over 1,350 tons of food to be distributed. It will be delivered to all 60 municipalities by Aug 19.

"The amount of products is very big and we need to ensure proper storage conditions, therefore, the delivery of food products to over 6000 distributions location will be carried out based on a schedule as products will reach specific distribution points at different times," the ESFA said.

Those eligible to food and personal care products include people whose average monthly income per capita is below 183 euros.

24 million euros have been allocated from the Fund for European Aid to the Most Deprived (FEAD) to buy food and personal care products for 2019-2020.
