Candidates for Latvian Literary Awards announced; lifetime achievement award to be presented to Zvirgzdins

RIGA - Nominees for the Annual Latvian Literary Awards were announced today by an expert jury, as the International Writers and Translators' House representative Andra Konste informed LETA.

The jury of experts decided that lifetime achievement award would go to Latvian author Juris Zvirgzdins for his contribution to Latvian children's literature. Special award will be presented to festival Punctum.

There are four candidates in the poetry category: Janis Hvoinskis, Andris Ogrins, Janis Rokpelnis, Janis Vadonis, and Sandra Vensko.

Candidates in the prose category are Inga Gaile, Sabine Koseleva, Lienite Medne-Spare, and Gundega Repse.

In children's literature category, the candidates for the award are Rasa Bugavicute-Pece, Viesturs Kerus, and Inese Zandere.

Candidates for the best translation are Uldis Berzins, Raimonds Jaks, Dace Meiere, Mara Polakova, Edvins Raups.
