RIGA - During a meeting with his Georgian counterpart today, Latvian Defense Minister Raimonds Bergmanis (Greens/Farmers) said that Latvia, together with its allies, actively support Georgia's Euro-Atlantic efforts.
As BNS was informed by the Defense Ministry, Bergmanis attended a meeting of the NATO-Georgia Commission, where the security situation in the region was discussed, as well as the country's reform process, which is important in its path towards NATO members.
Bergmanis also had a bilateral meeting with Georgian Defense Minister Levan Izoria to discuss Latvia's participation in the NATO support program for Georgia's defense reforms, Georgia's involvement in the strengthening of regional security, as well as bilateral cooperation.
''Latvia, together with its allies, actively support Georgia's Euro-Atlantic efforts, and are looking at closer cooperation possibilities,'' Bergmanis said during the meeting.
At the same time, Bergmanis again confirmed Latvia's support towards Georgia's territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Georgia is one of the main Eastern Partnership Initiative countries with which Latvia cooperates in the area of defense.
