Baltic ports raise cargo turnover 5.6% in 11 months

RIGA - In the first 11 months of 2018, all Baltic ports together received and shipped 144.78 million tons of cargo, which was 5.6 percent or 7.665 million tons more than in the respective period last year, according to the data released by the Lithuanian Statistical Bureau.

Of all cargos handled by the Baltic ports in January-November this year, 41.8 percent were reloaded in Latvia, 35.3 percent in Lithuania and 22.9 percent in Estonia.

Compared to the first 11 months of last year, cargo turnover rose in ports of all three Baltic states.

The Latvian ports saw their cargo turnover grow 5.9 percent, or 3.346 million tons, to 60.50 million tons in the first 11 months of 2018.

Meanwhile, the ports of Lithuania raised their cargo turnover by 6.2 percent, or 2.997 million tons, to 51.077 million tons, and the Estonian ports reloaded 33.202 million tons of cargo during the first 11 months of this year, up 4.1 percent, or 1.321 million tons year-on-year.

In 2017, all Baltic ports together received and shipped 149.571 million tons of cargo, up 2.4 percent from 2016. Of the total cargo turnover in Baltic ports last year, 41.4 percent were handled in Latvia, 35.4 percent in Lithuania and 23.3 percent in Estonia.
