RIGA - The foreign ministers of the Baltic states have expressed support for a process shaped and driven by Venezuelans to establish an inclusive transitional government soon that will lead the country into free and fair presidential elections, LETA was told at the Latvian Foreign Ministry.

Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Reinsalu, Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics (New Unity) and Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius underline in their joint statement that all institutions of the Venezuelan state should be included in this process. The humanitarian, social and political situation in Venezuela continues to deteriorate, underlining the need for a peaceful and inclusive political transition that will restore democracy.

The current pandemic has added urgency to the need to end the status quo, the Baltic ministers stressed, calling for an end to all political persecution and acts of repression.

A swift and peaceful transition to democracy is the most effective and sustainable route to stability, recovery and prosperity in Venezuela.
