Baltic defense ministers in Tallinn to discuss regional security priorities

RIGA - On Thursday, Defense Minister Andris Spruds (Progressives) will pay a two-day working visit to Tallinn, Estonia, to participate in the meeting of the Baltic Defense Ministers' Committee, the Defense Ministry informed LETA.

The aim of the meeting is to coordinate joint actions to strengthen regional security and deepen military cooperation among the Baltic states.

During the working sessions, the ministers will discuss current regional security issues and agree on the next steps in the targeted development of the countries' combat capabilities. Particular attention will be paid to the future strategic dialogue with the US and the Baltic cooperation format.

Also on the agenda are issues related to military industrial capacity building and joint procurement, as well as the provision of continued and coordinated support to Ukraine.

The Baltic states maintain a regular dialogue on defense policy and capability development between defense ministers and armed forces commanders, as well as at expert level, the ministry said.

Latvia will take over from Estonia as the lead country in the trilateral cooperation format at the conclusion of the meeting of the Baltic Defense Ministers' Committee.
