VILNIUS - Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda says that the information currently available on Inga Ruginiene, the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party's nominee for prime minister, allows to expect that she will successfully do the job of prime minister.

"Yes, of course, in some details we can only rely on her answers because it is not possible to verify them, but I very much hope that this whole information we have today and that, having evaluated this information, we can still expect that Mrs. Ruginiene will successfully do the job as prime minister," Nauseda told the public broadcaster LRT Topic of the Day on Thursday.

According to the president, Ruginiene's biography contains details that "require more attention".

"That is why our first meeting lasted for two hours, which is quite an unusually long meeting," he said.

Ruginiene has received questioned from the public about her relatives in Russia and visits to this country, her husband's business and her forestry degree, which she completed in a year.

Earlier in the day, Nauseda submitted Ruginiene's nomination to the country's parliament, the Seimas, having met with her twice.

The new prime minister will be appointed after the resignation Gintautas Paluckas last week after he faced growing questions about his business dealings and his past.
