‘Neakivaizdinis Vilnius’ has expanded: you can now explore the city in English

From now on, more than 100 routes around Vilnius, as well as recommendations on entertainment and dining, which museums to visit or where to find green spaces in the city, are available in English on the ‘Neakivaizdinis Vilnius’ mobile app and the English version of the website: https://neakivaizdinisvilnius.lt/en. 

"This celebratory year when the capital is prominently featured all over the world is an excellent opportunity to expand the ranks of city explorers and give them a new tool to unlock undiscovered stories and spaces. Recently, we have received a lot of enquiries about when material in English will be available for sharing with people from abroad who are living in Vilnius or visiting the city – that’s why we decided to respond to this demand", explains Sonata Griškienė, Senior Advisor to Foreign Relations and Tourism Division of Vilnius City Administration and the initiator and coordinator of the ‘Neakivaizdinis Vilnius’ project.

The English mobile app ‘Neakivaizdinis Vilnius’ and the website include all the materials developed over the last four years – thematic routes, neighbourhood studies, cycling and public transport routes, and the ‘After Lectures’ section. This includes tips and ideas on how to spend your free time after exploring the city – the constantly updated information covers gourmet places, cultural institutions, green spaces, shopping, and entertainment. Hundreds of photos and maps are available on the platforms alongside the information.

The English version of the website also includes publications on UNESCO, the ‘Vilnius for Children’ game, and the ‘Tasty Vilnius’ guide. It is also planned that, in the future, other popular publications and audio recordings of the routes will be translated into English.

The information in English in ‘Neakivaizdinis Vilnius’ is mainly aimed at those who already know the city rather than those who are here for the first time and have not yet visited the TOP sites or tried popular experiences. It’s for people looking for ways to get to know the capital city more deeply, to learn more about its history and cultural layers, and for those who want to discover the favourite spots and walking trails of locals. Among the most popular routes of this year's ‘Neakivaizdinis Vilnius’ are ‘Vilnius Street Art’, ‘Stories of Open Courtyards’, ‘Through the Labyrinth of the Narrowest Streets’, ‘Reflections of Ukrainian History’, and ‘The Historical Cafés of the City’.

The team behind ‘Neakivaizdinis Vilnius’ hopes that the app and website in English will be relevant, first of all, to the foreigners living in Vilnius (embassy staff, international business representatives, exchange students, etc.), of whom there are about 30,000 in the capital, as well as foreign tourists and Lithuanians abroad who want to invite their friends and encourage their acquaintances to visit Vilnius.

‘Neakivaizdinis Vilnius’ is a project organised by Vilnius City Municipality for an alternative experience of Vilnius, encouraging people to explore the city on foot, by bicycle, and by public transport through free thematic routes and neighbourhood studies on the website www.neakivaizdinisvilnius.lt, the mobile app ‘Neakivaizdinis Vilnius’ (Google Play or the App Store for Apple devices), the magazine ‘Neakivaizdinis Vilnius’, and on the social media networks Facebook and Instagram.
